The Benefits Of Grass Fed, Organic Beef

Much of the cattle used to produce tasty, tender beef are fed with grass. The advantages of grass fed cattle are far superior to those consuming diets laced with chemicals and other additives. Believe it or not, these facts are upheld by hundreds of years’ worth of research, indicating that grass fed cattle are a far healthier choice.

Despite these odds, consumers must still take care to purchase meat from cattle which have been fed grass. Unless you do your research, you may be in for a surprise, as the effects of a cow’s diet on its meat are not minuscule. Research in nutrition journals demonstrates that meat from grass fed cattle has less fat. Far from being a minor health issue, the amount of fat in diets is a prime contributing factor to early heart disease and heart attacks.

Those tracking cholesterol can certainly benefit from eating grass fed beef, but this isn’t its only major advantage, as the heart isn’t the only organ that benefits. Other nutrition suggests that grass fed beef is higher in vitamins A, E and a variety of other vital nutrients.

Of course, the taste test is an important factor when choosing food. Luckily, those who ate grass fed beef typically reported that the meat tasted far superior to other types of beef. Not only that but they weren’t exposed to dangerous chemicals. Although research is still being done, there has been evidence that the chemicals given to some cattle may result in early puberty and hormonal changes in children and young adults. This is simply another strong reason to choose grass fed cattle.

True, using chemicals and grains can result in a very high fat beef product, one that consumers may be trained to think is desirable. However, cattle producers started using this practice to cut costs and not to focus on the health of those eating the beef. Consumers need to be pro-active about their health and realize that producers’ focus on cost cutting may come at the expense of people’s health.

The grass fed to cattle is typically healthy and organic. This results in less stressful lives which, in turn, translates to a healthier beef product. Furthermore, grass fed cattle don’t generally get hormones and antibiotics in excess of those mandated by law. Many consumers rightfully don’t wish to consume these, as they often do far more harm than good. While it is impossible to avoid all antibiotics in the beef we purchase, those given to grass fed cattle are generally less than the quantities given to other varieties.

One major issue in the use of antibiotics is that the cattle will acquire a resistance. When this happens, disease will spread more rampantly, and diseased cattle may still be made into beef for consumption, resulting in a higher rate of recalls. Not only are grass fed cattle less likely to develop such resistances, but the beef also tastes better. All in all, it’s a win for consumers.

Save Money On Cleaning Supplies: Go Organic

There are some small measures that we can do to help clean the environment. I don’t mean anything drastic, like chaining yourself to a tree and hoping that the Caterpillar D8 Bulldozer doesn’t run you over. I mean small simple things that will help keep clean the air we breath, the water we drink and the land that we live off of. If we all take some small steps we can and will make a difference.

One very simple and effective way to start is to use environmentally safe clean products at home. I know, I know, you are probably saying to yourself "environmentally safe" equals more money. Not the case at all. I bet that I can show you several ways to make eco-safe products from things that you already have in your pantry or kitchen cabinets.

I’m talking about inexpensive, easy to make, environmentally safe cleaning products that work as well, or in some cases better, than expensive and toxic chemicals. You may not think that all of talk about saving the environment has any validity, but it does all make sense. I never really though about it but why use toxic chemicals to do the job, when you can easily make your own using organically safe products to do it just as well. Cleaning organically doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated.

Not thinking of myself as an "environmentalist," writing an article about eco-friendly products would be the last thing I would ever do, however I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t observed it’s value. Who would have ever thought that a few simple household items would ever equate to eco-friendly cleaning products. As I said earlier, using eco-safe products doesn’t mean buying anything new. Besides buying eco-friendly products off the shelf is actually expensive. It doesn’t seem right or fair that organic or eco-friendly products should cost more, but in many cases they do.

That’s why I’m showing you some easy to make products with existing household items. You can make a great all purpose cleaner for kitchen counters, cabinets, floors, stove tops, glass and chrome with a combination of distilled vinegar and water. This stuff really works and it’s one of the best glass and mirror cleaners I’ve ever used. You can even use it in the bathroom because vinegar is a natural disinfectant, so it can be used around the bowl and rim. It costs pennies to make and it’s highly effective. It seems that in most households the kitchen is the main room. It’s the center of the household and as such it has a tendency to get dirtier than other parts of the home. In our house it seems that the counter tops are constantly getting dirty and need to be wiped down often. First of all using chemicals to clean kitchen counter tops is expensive and can be toxic. The vinegar and water solution is safe and effective for any kitchen surface including the refrigerator and microwave. I was absolutely impressed with the results of some of the organic cleaning recipes we share on our blog below, I think you will be too.
